We love these! Why? Well 1. zebra! 2. Zebra. 3. Zebra!

Ok — kidding kidding, but really! These pegs have been so cute but we are already on to our 33rd bulk order for these! During EDS awareness week we had separated these into all of their own individual bags and gave them away at the hospital to raise awareness of rare disease, EDS and connective tissue diseases inside the hospital — and it was a great success! We have over 60 of them out and we’re able to start some really great conversations on it as well!

But these are fabulous to hang up on the wall with the rope that the package comes with it! Hang your art, coloured pictures, or any cards people have sent you, letters you have been written, or quotes you have written out for yourself, or photos of friends and family, or a combination of them easily in your room!

Just a few suggestions — what would you do?

Also used as: A garland or bunting to hang letters and cards up in your bedroom or during a hospital stay. Use them to raise awareness of rare disease by breaking the set up and giving out individually, for a a giveaway, as a decoration for a wrapped gift in itself… Honestly - we have done all of the above with these ideas and possibilities and suggestions are limitless!

Why the zebra?

Zebras are the mascot for rare disease and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS). Why? Because often when Dr are in medical school, they are taught a saying which says “when you hear hoof-boots - think horses not zebras, because horses are common and zebras are rare, ie: think of the common things, not the rare ones. But because of this, often along the way, Drs can forget that zebras still exist! That just because it is often a horse, doesn’t mean that it cant be a zebra, and that zebras still exist! This is why the zebra is the mascot. And to help raise awareness. Further to that — every zebra is unique with its own stripes, and even though it’s stripes are different to the next persons, doesn’t mean that it’s still not a zebra. Ie: Just because my symptoms are different to the person next to someone else's, doesn’t mean it’s not a zebra. It can look different from one person to the next, as it depends on what is most affected for each person…. but it’s still a zebra. And zebras really do exist! — even in the shape of a zebra face mask here!
